How to Clean and Maintain Your Washing Machine

Washing Machine

The washing machine is a household appliance that sweats and continuously puts in more work to give us clothes as clean as on the first day. But we rarely return the favor. We understand the need to keep your appliances in good working condition, after all Texas Cleaning Services.

Below is a complete guide on how to maintain and clean your washing machine.

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

Before You Start: what you will need

  • White vinegar

  • Baking soda

  • A microfiber cloth

  • An old toothbrush

  • Dish soap

Step 2 : Process of Cleaning the Detergent Dispenser

Soak the detergent dispenser in warm soapy water. Scrub off any remnants or mold with an old toothbrush. Rinse it well and leave to dry, before putting it back into the machine.

Step 3: Wipe Down the Drum

Clean the inside of the drum with a white vinegar and water solution on a microfibre cloth. This is helpful to remove soap scum and residue. Of the cloth, in order to scrub away blotches with hard or long-standing dirt, moisten it and rub a little bit of baking soda.

Step 4: Run a Cleaning Cycle

You would put two cups of white vinegar in the detergent dispenser and run a hot water cycle with no clothes. The vinegar helps clean out any leftover detergent and also sterilizes it. After the cycle is done, sprinkle about a cup of baking soda inside the drum and redo the process on hot high load. This will deodorize your machine and clean it out further.

Step 5: Clean the Door Seal

Your magnetic door gasket is a mold incubator. These can be cleaned with a cloth dipped in vinegar-water. For tougher spots, the toothbrush to help remove that yucky grime. Wipe the seal dry entirely to avoid mold from accumulating later on.

Step 6: Inspect the Drain Filter

This filter filters out your drain lint and those tiny things that get into the wash like coins, or whatever you sometimes forget to check before putting in. Look for the filter usually at a front bottom location of the machine and get rid of any waste. Wash it with running water and fix it again.

Step 7: Maintain the Exterior

Clean the Exterior of the Washing machine with a wet towel and mild detergent.

Dodge extreme glass cleaning chemicals to prevent damage.

Step 8: Leave the Door Open

Leave the door open after a wash so the inside of the machine can air out.Creating airflow will help it from molding or mildewing.

Regular Maintenance Tips

  1. Regular Cleaning: Do the vinegar and baking soda cleaning cycle at least once per month to maintain your machine.

  2. Don't Overload: If your washing machine is overloaded it can put strain on the motor and make it wear out faster.

  3. Use the Right Detergent: High-efficiency (HE) detergent is needed for machines which require it. Detergent, if you were to use regular detergent here it would lead to suds and you don't want that, so the reason is we don't want that in our super fossil machine because too many suds can mess with the performance of your washer.

  4. Check Hoses: Take a close look at your hoses for signs of wear or leaks. Replace those if need be to save against water damage.
